My latest for the Canucks Army - two under the radar (and fantasy relevant) defensive prospects to keep an eye on.   Buzz out of Pittsburgh regarding Crosby being cleared for contact... (hat tip to Mike Brophy on Twitter for reporting this).   Nashville defenseman Mattias Ekholm is making his NHL debut tonight. He [...]

Varlamov

He strikes quicker than a cobra. With an outstretched blocker, he stabs at pucks clearly headed for the top corners. Even if he’s totally down and out, Semyon Varlamov has the speed, the quickness and the sheer flexibility to take space away before you can even process what has happened.

Peter Mueller didn't play last night because he wasn't feeling well. I'm not sure if that means he has the flu/cold, or if his concussion issues have returned.   Not surprisingly, Pat Kane is looking good as a center. More time with the puck on his stick. A goal and two helpers last night. [...]

Ovechkin

After such a forgettable summer across professional hockey circles around the globe off the ice, it brings me much pleasure to get back to on-ice action. Last year, I finished with a year-ending winning percentage of 63%, finishing particularly strong , going 17-7 over my final 3 entries of the 2010-11 season. Here’s to picking up where I left off!

Elias

A tough decision can be made easier with these charts showing you the best five and worst five schedules for upcoming seven-day periods. Some of you used them last year but for the benefit of new readers here is a refresher. The number next to the team indicates the 'multiplier' to use on a player's point-per-game pace to give you an idea how many points to expect for that week.

Brendan Ross with an in-depth look at Nail Yakupov, a prospect many consider to be the best since Sidney Crosby.   Brayden Schenn may not have his name pencilled in on the Calder Trophy any more, but he did have a hat trick in the AHL last night. He'll be back up with the [...]

Roto

Accompanying the Roto Exclusive this month is a column dedicated to salary. Much like any category you add to a fantasy league,  salary completely changes the game. Suddenly you are faced with the challenge of filling out a productive, yet affordable, roster. Some like it and some do not. This edition is catered to those that do.

Todd McLellan says the game plan right now is for Antti Niemi to get his first start in net on Monday against the Ducks.   Anaheim, incidentally, called up Pat Maroon to take Jason Blake's roster spot. Maroon has 2-3-5 in 2 GP in the AHL so far. Not only did he have [...]
