The start of the 2011-2012 NHL season is well and truly underway and many of you might be a bit disappointed with your fantasy squad at the moment. What you thought three weeks ago was an invincible team has now been returned back to Earth with a thud. Keep in mind that it’s only three weeks into the season and there’s still plenty of time left to compete for the title come April. This week I’ll list off a few players that were largely ignored at the draft table, but may provide you with a much needed shot in your arm for your fantasy squad.

In my mind Ilya Kovalchuk and Rick Nash will always be connected as two of the wasted talents of this generation. Their careers are far from over but having used up their youth as the faces of two of the league’s most moribund franchises I feel confident making that claim.

We’re now three weeks into the season, and already there are some intriguing developments taking place between “starters” and their “backups” right now. For example, you could stab my eyes out with a plastic fork, but I’d still see the polarizations taking place between Roberto Luongo and Cory Schneider advocates and fans. The tandem of Jonathan Quick and Jonathan Bernier in Los Angeles has also been a hot-button topic over the past few days.
