Sakic is still a ways away - March at least. Dan Cleary's broken jaw will keep him out of the lineup for six to eight weeks. This will give added responsibility [...]

The mere fact that he still leads the team in scoring by a wide margin despite missing 20 percent of the season so far exemplifies his importance. Colorado will also welcome back Ryan Smyth to practice Monday.

During the absence of these two stars, as well as captain Joe Sakic, the Avs have discovered some interesting things about themselves.

The Buffalo News is indicating that Tim Connolly may need surgery to repair a bone spur and torn labrum in his hip. If so, he will be out for the season. He may still try to play Sunday and deal with the pain for the final 25 games. Maxim Afinogenov (groin) did not skate in practice [...]

In a move that may help in landing Brunnstrom, the Leafs are close to signing Brunnstrom's countryman Linus Klasen. The 21-year-old (he'll be 22 in a week) plays for Sodertalje SK of the SEL. Unlike what sportsnet (as well as rotoworld and other fantasy sites) are reporting, Brunnstrom is not Klasen's teammate. Brunnstrom actually plays [...]
