December starts on Monday and in spite of the two day Christmas break the NHL only has one less game then there was in November and by the time the month is done we will be 45% of the way through the season.  Atlanta, L.A., Phoenix and St. Louis play almost every other day with 15 games in the month.  The Blackhawks and Rangers at the bottom of the list are only four games behind with 11.

Did you pay attention to all my John Curry talk over the last few months - particularly the last couple of days? Curry will get the start for the Pens tonight.  To play it safe, the Flyers will probably hold Briere out of tonight's game. He could play Saturday and avoid the back-to-back situation. Tomas Holmstrom [...]

The Boston Bruins are one of the hottest teams in the league right now. Are they for real? We’re a quarter of the way into the season, so you better believe it.  Heading into last night’s action, the Bruins were tied for second in points in the NHL and tied for first in the Eastern Conference with the New York Rangers who had played three more games. Before Boston’s loss to the Sabres last night, the Bruins were an impressive 9-0-1 in their previous ten games.

Jokinen's iron man streak will end at 397 games. Mueller's production should rise now, and obviously Turris will be used in more situations. I actually think this could spark the team  The Coyotes have announced that Olli Jokinen will be out 2-4 weeks with a shoulder injury.  Janne Pesonen has been recalled by the Pens. Look [...]

We’re now at the first quarter mark of the 2008-09 NHL season so it’s time to get out the first grades and who better to evaluate than yours truly to give you an idea if you’re in good hands when the Fantasy Frog gives you advice. That’s right, in this column I am evaluating myself by looking back at the advice I offered in this year’s Dobber Fantasy Guide where I listing 20 players whose stock I expected to drop this season and where the names you found were not the easy ‘anybody could have told you’ names you found in most other fantasy guides.

For the past three weeks, we covered goalies, defensemen and wingers while examining team-by-team who is primed for fantasy success and who is due for a fall in the coming weeks.

We conclude the series with centers this week and I hope you have gained some valuable information with this mini-series. Centers have always been the deepest position in fantasy hockey and the gap that exists between a top-tiered center compared to a waiver wire center is not that apparent especially if you play in a custom league where your league settings may include faceoff wins or shooting percentage.

The mass hysteria in the fantasy hockey world reached a record high recently with the news that superstar goaltender Roberto Luongo would be out with a long-term injury. Mass panic ensued, and many promising fantasy seasons went down the tube. No one will be able to replace Luongo, especially with the kind of season he was having. He looked to be a lock for the Vezina and once again a contender for the Hart Trophy. But now that he is out, what does that mean for Luongo owners?
