This weekend I participated in 10 Yahoo Mock Drafts to gain a better grasp of what’s been going on in fantasy hockey drafts and thought that I’d pass my findings onto you Dobberities. I participated in random drafts ranging from eight to 14 teams from H2H to Roto leagues with standard settings. This is what I found.

We’re all aware of the three-year trend that exists within Nashville’s goaltending regime. It started with Chris Mason taking over Tomas Vokoun at the tail-end of the 2006-07 season, then continued with Dan Ellis taking over Mason in the second half of the 2007-08 season. Then the trend was perpetuated again when the lanky Pekka Rinne took over Ellis’ job last year, which resulted in the rookie phenom starting all but two games in March and April.
Man, there is little to talk about today. Late last week it looked like the news was starting to flow for good, but now it's like the calm before the storm. Training camps open this weekend and prospect tournaments are already underway. Our own Steve Johnson is covering the one in Kitchener, you can read [...]

I am not sure why I decided to drive three and a half hours just to watch the prospects practice Sunday morning, but I did.
Fantasy Guide can be found here. It is updated through Sept. 3rd Great read of Toronto's situation by TSN's Bob McKenzie. The Leafs traded a 2nd and 3rd rounder in 2011 to reacquire their own 2nd rounder in 2010. On its own, the move is clearly a dumb one. However, as McKenzie points out, [...]

Summer is officially over, and while pro camps in North America are just around the corner, pre-season overseas is well underway.
Over the last half decade most teams have developed a three season program for transitioning their AHL scoring stars to NHL top-six forwards. It's a fairly simple formula but it's amazingly consistent.
Once a player proves they can score at the AHL level, usually among the top-20 scorers, the team will sign the player to a two-way contract. This second, transition year gives teams a chance to get a better read on a player's development. It can mean anywhere between six to sixty NHL games, but almost always sees the player contribute in both leagues. The final year is the one-way contract year, where the player gets every opportunity to crack the top-six and produce in the NHL.
