PA Parenteau vs. Matt Moulson

PA Parenteau vs. Matt Moulson - Draft position is one of the greatest deceivers in fantasy sports. It is a nice guideline (particularly in and around draft time) but the farther away you get from the NHL draft the less that draft position means. That is because the draft provides only a snap shot in time of the perceived value of all the drafted players. You think it matters any more that Datsyuk was a sixth round pick? That Zetterberg was a seventh? It most certainly does not.

Forensics – Jaroslav Halak and Brian Elliott

Halak

Forensics - Jaroslav Halak and Brian Elliott - Many teams have employed a two goalie system in the past, but the tandem of Jaroslav Halak and Brian Elliott are taking it to a new level this season.  With most tandems there is always a clear number one, meaning that one guy is always going to get the benefit of the doubt when it comes to starting big games, as long as he doesn't turn into Andre "Red Light" Racicot.

The Anatomy of Trading (Fantasy Hockey)

The Anatomy of Trading - A couple of years ago I read a life-changing book penned by Steven R. Covey titled “7 Habits of Highly Effective People.” One habit that he focuses on is to always think win-win. With the default fantasy trade deadline (March 8th on Yahoo!), creeping up fairly soon, I thought it would be a great idea to see if I can apply some of his thoughts into the realm of fantasy hockey trading.

Update on RNH - 7-10 days with a sprained shoulder according to TSN.   Ryan Nugent-Hopkins left last night’s contest in the third period after aggravating his shoulder injury. It was a “precaution” and he’ll be re-evaluated. Regardless, I think the point totals are on the way to a big dip now that Sam [...]

A Potent Threat – Mikhail Grabovski

Grabo

A Potent Threat – Mikhail Grabovski - A season ago, NHL fans were introduced to the lethal synergistic line combination of Mikhail Grabovski, Clarke MacArthur, and Nikolai Kulemin. While expectations were high in 2011-12, Joffrey Lupul and Phil Kessel began to steal the spotlight. After a rocky first half of the season, the secondary scoring in Toronto is once again flourishing, thanks largely in part to the efforts of a pending unrestricted free agent – Mikhail Grabovski.

In this week's Q&A, I took a different tact and approached the way events like Sam Gagner's eight-point night speak to a larger problem with all of us... fans, media and poolies... when it comes to making too much out of anything and everything. So I guess I got my essay on Gagner [...]
