Ramblings: Nurse Leaves Game, Hall a Healthy Scratch, Bedard Sophomore Slumping? (Nov 17)

Entering Saturday, Trent Frederic was held without a goal since opening night, which is a span of 17 games. Frederic broke that slump with a pair of goals on Saturday to go with five shots on goal. Frederic reached 40 points last season, but he is currently on pace for just 26 points. If he can find his scoring touch, he could be a solid addition to bangers league teams. He is currently averaging over two hits per game.
Brayden Schenn scored the overtime winner for the Blues over Boston. That gives him four points in his last three games. Schenn has also taken nine shots over his last two games, so he appears to be heating up.

Those watching the Connor McDavid/Auston Matthews-less Leafs Hockey Night in Canada matchup witnessed an ugly hit by Ryan Reaves on Darnell Nurse. Reaves was assessed a match penalty, while Nurse was forced to leave the game. Expect Reaves to receive a call from the NHL Department of Player Safety. Nurse was walking around after the game, but the Oilers did not provide an update after the game.
In the Leafs' win, Bobby McMann scored a pair of goals. After being held without a point in his previous 11 games, McMann now has three goals and 11 shots over his past two games. Being elevated to a scoring line with John Tavares and Mitch Marner has helped McMann's recent value. He could be worth a look in fantasy leagues, although the Leafs play just two games next week.

Both Pyotr Kochetkov and Frederik Andersen are on the shelf right now, so Spencer Martin was forced into action on Saturday against Ottawa. Martin was up to the task, stopping all 25 shots he faced for his first career shutout. The Hurricanes play again today (Sunday), and Kochetkov might be available for that game. If not, then Yaniv Perets could start the game against St. Louis, or it could be Martin again. Check with GoaliePost for the latest updates.
With an assist, Martin Necas extended his point streak to 12 games. Over that streak, Necas has piled up 22 points, and he occupies a spot in the top 10 in league scoring with 26 points. Good thing the Canes didn't trade him over the summer.
David Perron returned to the Senators' lineup on Saturday following some health challenges of his infant daughter. Perron has yet to record a point in six games as a Senator, but that's not the most important thing for him right now.

A matchup of division leaders turned into a one-sided game in favor of Florida. Sergei Bobrovsky saved all 27 shots he faced in the Panthers' 5-0 win over Winnipeg. I've got Bobrovsky on two of my teams this season, and so far, I've thought he could be better. However, Bob is on the Frozen Tools hot list with six wins and five quality starts over his last seven games. I guess what I'm trying to say is that he'll help the win totals more than the ratios. There's some truth to that, as only Connor Hellebuyck has more wins this season than Bobrovsky (9), yet Bobrovsky has a sub-.900 save percentage (.897 SV%) this season.
Aleksander Barkov and Sam Reinhart each recorded three points for the Panthers. Both are definitely on the hot list, as Barkov has 16 points over his last eight games and Reinhart has 16 points over his last 10 games.
This was a spirited game with some rough stuff, so Tuesday's rematch in Winnipeg could be quite a battle.

With two goals on Saturday, Adrian Kempe now has multiple goals in back-to-back games and six points over his last four games. Kempe also continues to shoot the puck with 10 shots over his last three games.
David Rittich was only a minute and a half away from a shutout, but he will have to settle for a win. Rittich has three wins and three quality starts over his last four games, with a 1.54 GAA and .932 SV% over that span. Darcy Kuemper should still receive the majority of the starts for the Kings, but Rittich could make things interesting.

A game after earning his 300th win, Andrei Vasilevskiy picked up a 29-save shutout of the Devils. Vasilevskiy now has three consecutive quality starts, allowing just two goals over that span. He continues to be one of the highest-volume goalies in the league, as his 14 games ties him with several other goalies for the league lead.

With a goal and an assist on Saturday, Travis Sanheim has five points over his last two games. His icetime has been particularly high recently, as he has averaged 29 minutes per game over his last five games. That will help not only his offense, but also his peripheral stats. Sanheim is averaging 2.4 SOG/GP this season, which is the first time he has averaged over two shots per game in a season. On Saturday, Sanheim took five shots on goal and blocked four shots.
Another Travis – Travis Konecny – scored a pair of goals and added an assist in the Flyers' 5-2 win over Buffalo. Konecny is red hot with 12 points over his last six games and has goals in three consecutive games.
Emil Andrae left Saturday's game in the third period due to an injury.

Mason Marchment scored a pair of goals on Saturday, giving him nine points over his last three games. Marchment has scored goals in each of those games. Earlier in the week, Marchment picked up five points in Dallas's rout of Pittsburgh. His output this week pushes him over the point-per-game mark (17 PTS in 15 GP), and it will probably help a few teams win their head-to-head matchups. In fact, the entire line of Marchment, Matt Duchene, and Tyler Seguin is scoring at over a point per game this season. They are picking up the scoring for the Stars while the top duo of Jason Robertson and Roope Hintz are scoring below their usual pace.

From the "how far have they fallen" department: Taylor Hall was a healthy scratch on Saturday. The onetime first overall pick and 2017-18 Hart Trophy winner, Hall has just two goals and six points in 17 games this season. He may have fallen off fantasy radars last season when he played in just 10 games, but his production has gradually declined since that Hart Trophy season. Hall should not be rostered on fantasy teams until his numbers start to improve.
Let's talk about Connor Bedard for a moment. His 13 points in 18 games doesn't really qualify as a poor start, and it leads the Blackhawks. Yet he's been held without a point in three games and without a goal in nine games. He is struggling mightily at the faceoff dot (29.3 FO% for the season, 1-for-9 on Saturday), which is hurting his possession (CF% below 50% both this season and last). He is only 19 years old and playing for a team that hasn't surrounded him with top-level talent, so it's far too early to assume he won't live up to the hype. Yet as far as single-season value goes, he may not be able to reach lofty heights just yet. Bedard is simply facing an uphill battle.
Remember Erik Brannstrom? With a goal on Saturday, he now has two goals in his last three games. He may not be the offensive force that he was projected to be when he was drafted by Vegas back in 2017, but after being acquired by the Canucks and starting the season in the AHL, he might have found a home in Vancouver.
Arturs Silovs has struggled this season, so Saturday's win over Chicago could help restore his confidence. The win was Silovs' first of the season, saving 28 of 29 shots that he faced. Kevin Lankinen has been wearing down a bit recently, so it's important to have Silovs effective while the Canucks wait for Thatcher Demko. Lankinen is expected to start tonight (Sunday) against Nashville.

I don't have any plans to join the migration over to Bluesky, but I may reconsider at some point.
