Looking Ahead - Fantasy Hockey

There is just over one week of regular season hockey left but that is still 6% of the season so lots of points to be had.  If the NHL continues scoring at the same rate there should be over 400 more goals scored and over 700 more assists awarded.

Playoff races are all the talk across the NHL and things are winding down but don’t be fooled in to thinking the season is over.  There is still 10% of the season remaining.  Here is a look at the number of games remaining for all the NHL teams including games on March 27.

Starting March 6 the Carolina Hurricanes play five games in seven nights.  The Hurricanes are old hands at this because although it only happens 12 times for all teams during the whole NHL season it happens to the Hurricanes three times.  They play the Flames, Lightning, Rangers, Blackhawks and Stars with only two homes games so there is a lot of travel.

Looking Ahead

March is the month with the most NHL action in it with a total of 210 games.  Combine that with a playoff races and no stupid breaks like All-Star or Christmas and this is a hockey fan’s dream.  Although the schedule makers haven’t pulled out all the stops and given us a day where all 30 NHL teams play.  October 25 was your only time for that.

Home Stretch

After the trade deadline on March 4 there are still 22% of the games left to play.  All NHL teams play between 17 and 20 games. The top schedules belong to the Senators (20.25), Flyers (20.13), Canadiens (19.94), Blackhawks (19.78), and Wild (19.74) who all play 20 games (ratings shown in brackets). At the other end of the schedule the Hurricanes (16.90), Penguins (16.95), Predators (16.97), Ducks (16.97), and Blue Jackets (17.23) have the worst combination of fewer games, tougher opponents and road games.  The Blackhawks lead the homes games category with 13 after the trade deadline followed by Panthers, Flyers, and Canadiens with 11.

Starting Wednesday February 11, the Ottawa Senators play five games in seven nights including two sets of back to back games.  All of these games are on the road.  Playing five games in a one week span doesn't happen very often - only twelve times during the regular season and this is the only time it happens to the Senators.
