It was a busy day for the Philadelphia Flyers. Morgan Frost was sent down so he will not be starting the year with the team, but Joel Farabee is still with the club. They're not officially down to 23 players yet and have a road trip to Europe coming, so it's not a guarantee [...]
The Calgary Flames have come to terms to a three-year bridge deal with RFA winger Matthew Tkachuk. He comes in at $7M annually, making Brayden Point’s contract look like even more of a steal. Anyway, the Flames still have some work to do with their cap, but it looks like all their pieces are [...]
The rumours of Justin Faulk being traded have been around for a couple years now. Lately, there was a report that Anaheim had a trade in the works that included Ondrej Kase, but that never materialized for one reason or another. On Tuesday morning, there were some breadcrumbs to follow – “Faulk is healthy [...]
I guess I should start sending out my I’m Sorry I Was Wrong holiday cards right now. More than once over the course of the summer, I stated in these Ramblings I thought both Quinn Hughes and Cale Makar would be eased into the top power-play role, with their respective coaches not opting for [...]
Perhaps the biggest story of training camp to date was Dustin Byfuglien taking some time away from the team. While there had been lots of speculation, neither the player nor team would confirm what this was about. Whenever something like this comes about in sports, the speculation is destined to be rampant and wild, [...]
We had some preseason games on Monday night, which was a nice change of pace compared to the last three months. As always, there isn’t a whole lot to glean from these games aside from line combinations and whether everyone makes it out healthy. There were three lineup combinations to note here: Edmonton went [...]
Following the signing of Zach Werenski, it seemed pretty obvious that Charlie McAvoy would soon follow. Less than a week later, McAvoy signed a three-year deal with Boston coming in with an AAV just under $5-million. As with a few of the bridge deals we’ve seen lately, the final year has a significantly higher [...]

Another RFA was knocked off the TBD board as the Wild signed winger Kevin Fiala to a two-year deal carrying an average annual value of $3M. The 23-year old winger had a breakout in 2017-18 with 23 goals and 48 points, but regressed production-wise in 2018-19 with just 13 goals and 39 points. I [...]
The RFA dominos may be starting to fall as Zach Werenski signed a three-year deal with the Columbus Blue Jackets carrying an average annual value of $5M. That helps to set the market for the big remaining RFA defencemen like Charlie McAvoy and Ivan Provorov. Just in general, I don’t get this from Werenski’s [...]
