The Wild West

Restricted free-agent signings are still trickling in, but the summer has slowed hockey-related transactions down quite a bit. What better time to start preparing for next year? Here is part three of our look at additions and subtractions for the remaining teams in the West (not including Seattle): San Jose Sharks Addition: Nick Bonino - [...]

I spent quite a few hours this weekend, reading Dobber’s Hockey Fantasy Guide for 2021-22 and as usual, found it super enlightening. Part of what I enjoy the most is seeing what Dobber and the other writers have to say about players and teams and how it measures up to what I think. Differences happen [...]

With today's column, I’m bridging a few topics to drafting, graduating draft picks and current prospect pools. The ideal scenario for a successful team should be having a high success rate for draft picks in general, graduating those draft picks to the NHL and continue to keep the pipeline going for future drafts by having [...]

Free agency begins on Wednesday, July 28 at noon ET (9 PT). Taylor Hall is now removed from lists as he signed a fairly reasonable four-year deal with Boston for $6 million AAV. Here is a look at who I consider the top unrestricted free agents on the market still. All salary cap projections are [...]

There was a lot of excitement with the pre-expansion roster freeze on Saturday with nine trades conducted in the 48 hours before. I wouldn’t have predicted Ryan Ellis being traded or Cody Glass, but we should always expect the unexpected in the NHL. We will look at the remaining teams in the West which will [...]

We had already looked at Edmonton, Minnesota, Nashville and St. Louis when all four of those teams were eliminated from the playoffs over a month ago. Now that the playoffs are done, it is time to look at the next five teams in the West (Anaheim, Arizona, Calgary, Chicago and Colorado) and see what the [...]

Nashville - Matt Duchene You could easily list Ryan Johansen and his seven goals and 22 points (0.46 pts/game) in 48 games or the recently traded Viktor Arvidsson and his 10 goals and 25 points (0.50) in 50 games but I’m going to go with Matt Duchene. Duchene was coming off of a pretty significant [...]

I thought we would match Brennan Des in the East and look at each team in the West and see who were the most disappointing players. Anaheim - Jakob Silfverberg The Ducks are not short in this department as any number of disappointing players could be listed including Kevin Shattenkirk, John Gibson, Adam Henrique, Danton [...]

A few weeks back we looked at how the Colorado Avalanche’s current roster was built. As I sat and watched Vegas beat Montreal in game four of the playoffs, I was curious how many players on the current Vegas roster were part of the expansion draft, traded for, signed for or drafted. Here is what [...]

I’m going to focus on some players that could potentially improve their production next season and might be a bargain in some leagues and pools. I know the fourth-year breakout is a thing, but some of these players might be ahead or behind that theory. We will only look at players from Western teams and [...]
