Hockey Rambling

Often I find that we’re focusing on trying to find the later round gems, dealing with the middle-round decisions, and creating the best overall draft strategies that we completely overlook another key important decision. This decision sets the tone for the entire draft, and becomes a key component of your team all season long. That’s [...]

We have a week left until the season starts, which doesn’t provide a lot of time for people to catch up on training camp news. I get that even in the best of times, finding some minutes to research fantasy hockey can be tough for people with families, a job (or multiple), and other responsibilities. [...]

It’s that time of year where line combinations and power play units should be taken with a grain of salt, but it’s impossible not to get excited about the prospect of some of them. One such intriguing combo was in Montreal, where Christian Dvorak, Josh Anderson and Jonathan Drouin were paired together earlier this week [...]

If you’ve read my Ramblings from the previous two days, you’ll recall that I’ve had success using the Zero G strategy in two different mock drafts (source: Apples and Ginos). However, I’m not going to proclaim that you’ll have a guaranteed 100 percent success rate using this strategy. https://twitter.com/aussie_beerguy/status/1444186431484612610 If you do decide to use [...]

Although the Canucks themselves did not announce the Elias Pettersson and Quinn Hughes contracts, Elliotte Friedman informed us what they would look like. https://twitter.com/FriedgeHNIC/status/1444036241440268299 Cap leaguers obviously won’t have the benefit of having these two players on entry-level deals any longer. However, keeping the cap hit under $8 million for both players has to be [...]

Bad news for those hoping for a breakout season from Jakub Vrana. The Wings winger is expected to miss at least four months, as he will undergo shoulder surgery. After being acquired from Washington at the trade deadline, Vrana impressed with his new club, scoring eight goals and 11 points in 11 games. Vrana had [...]

One player that seems to have performed incredibly well so far in the preseason is Cole Sillinger. The 2021 12th overall pick has earned glowing reports from coaches and media alike, and he’s been lining up with Jakub Voracek quite often. This continued in practice yesterday: https://twitter.com/BrianHedger/status/1443221930950156295 Sillinger was over a PPG player as a [...]

Mackenzie Blackwood is the lone New Jersey Devil that is not yet vaccinated, meaning he won’t be able to play games in Canada this year. He joins Josh Archibald, Tyler Bertuzzi, Bode Wilde, and Zac Rinaldo as the known NHL players and relevant affiliated players to not be vaccinated. Bertuzzi can be knocked a bit [...]

Last week I did my first best ball of the season, doing so over at Underdog Fantasy. They have a season-long tournament up where it’s $10 to enter with a top prize of $5K. There are 16 rounds in the draft, but each roster only counts five players to their final standings: one centre, two [...]

The Fantasy Guide updates are now in full swing, so you know that we’re in the heart of fantasy draft season. It’s been six days in row now where I’ve uploaded two updates in the same day – yes, it’s been that frantic. And even the tiniest details matter. You’re draft is coming up – [...]
