Hockey Rambling

At the start of the season, we didn’t really know what to make of Yegor Sharangovich. A fifth-round pick in 2018, he didn’t seem to be on the radar for Devils prospects ready to take the next step. Not only did he break through to the Devils’ roster, but he is now also fourth in [...]

Back-to-back Ramblings for me, and no back-up goalie in sight. Unfortunately, Mr. Clifford was unable to cover his usual day as he was working out too much and is currently listed as day-to-day with a hand injury. Hopefully he’ll be back on the ice soon!   * The big news that you want to hear [...]

I’m fairly certain that the NHL scheduler saw that I was managing the Ramblings that would include Tuesday night’s games, heard my request about not having super late games on Tuesdays (thanks!) but said “in that case, let’s just put all of the rest of them at 7pm". It’s a bit of a running joke [...]

Taking doctor’s orders under advisement, Andrew Shaw has decided to retire from hockey. Shaw leaves hockey at the age of 29, having won two Stanley Cups with the Blackhawks and posting 116 goals and 131 assists. The concussions have caught up and he is thinking about his future and not his present. When he was [...]

Hey there. If you were looking forward to reading the Monday Ramblings written by Dobber himself, sorry, you’re stuck with me for one more day. I look forward to reading his Ramblings just as much as you do, so I’ll try to fill the space with something worth your time here. If you need to [...]

In the early game, Bryan Rust’s 20th goal of the season helped the Penguins to a 4-2 win over New Jersey. Rust now has goals in three consecutive games with five points over that span. And now back-to-back 20-goal seasons. Cody Ceci, who assisted on Rust’s goal, now has 11 points (2 G, 9 A) [...]

The Calgary Flames cancelled their morning skate due to a positive COVID test, resulting in concerns that their game with Montreal would be cancelled. Fortunately, this did not affect Friday’s game, as only Josh Leivo was moved to the COVID protocol list. In a game with North Division playoff implications, the Flames came out on [...]

Best-ball leagues are something I have talked a lot about here, especially before this season started. Basically, they are leagues where there is no trading, waivers, or injured reserve. You draft a team of, say, 20 players, and the 10 best players count towards final standings. Most points win. These are popular in football and [...]

The Oilers got back a big reinforcement in the form of Ryan Nugent-Hopkins. He had been out of the lineup with a suspected concussion but seems good to go now. That is huge for the Oilers, as this is not a deep team, and at least RNH back in the lineup gives them the semblance [...]

It’s a long one today. Lots of thoughts on last night’s games, and then just for fun I go through in an entire mock expansion draft(!) to check for possible/probably fantasy ramifications. Seattle in, grab your coffee, tea, or drink of choice, and let’s get Kraken. * At this point in the season, you’re trying [...]
