By Michael Clifford|2020-12-21T19:10:21-05:00December 22nd, 2020|Hockey Rambling|

For much of the offseason, I and others have been musing about how Tampa Bay was going to get under the cap. They are two million over the cap as it is, with Anthony Cirelli and Erik Cernak both to sign. We got a few details on the situation Monday, and it’s not good news: [...]

The 15th annual Fantasy Hockey Guide is out and ready for download! Draft List too! Updated up to the Anthony Duclair news! * There really is a lot to digest these past few days. I think Elliotte Friedman, Pierre Lebrun, Cap Friendly, NHL.com, Chris Johnston and Frank Seravalli had the most comprehensive information on that [...]

Ramblings: It’s Not Too Early for a Mock Draft (Dec 20)

By Ian Gooding|2020-12-20T00:36:00-05:00December 20th, 2020|Hockey Rambling|

With a longer-than-normal offseason, finding topics to write about on a daily basis hasn’t been easy. Yet with the season supposed to be starting in a month, I thought why not try a mock draft? So I took a trip over to Yahoo, and lucky for me they had one ready to go in several [...]

According to Elliotte Friedman, the NHL and NHLPA have reached a tentative agreement on a 56-game season. https://twitter.com/FriedgeHNIC/status/1340092188160634886 We may not have information about scheduling and an iron-clad start date, and we still don’t have confirmation that the health authorities from all five Canadian provinces that host NHL teams have signed off. But any step [...]

Ramblings: Lundqvist to Miss Season, Steen Retires, Goalie Quality Start Percentage (Dec 18)

By Ian Gooding|2020-12-18T00:10:59-05:00December 18th, 2020|Hockey Rambling|

Let’s get the bad news about Henrik Lundqvist out of the way. The newly-signed Capitals goalie will miss the 2020-21 season because of a heart condition. He was expected to push up-and-coming Ilya Samsonov for starts, but because he signed a one-year contract, it’s possible that he never plays for the Capitals. Hopefully we see [...]

By Michael Clifford|2020-12-16T13:00:11-05:00December 17th, 2020|Hockey Rambling|

We are four weeks from the supposed start of the regular season and there isn’t much hope we get clarity on what that will look like anytime soon. It isn’t expected a deal is reached this week, which then gets them to Christmas week without a deal and the season three weeks away. Even Gary [...]

Ramblings: World Junior Stars and Their Wait Times, Kähkönen & Oettinger (Dec 16)

By Cam Robinson|2020-12-15T23:28:08-05:00December 15th, 2020|Hockey Rambling|

For this iteration of the Ramblings, I’m going to do something different. Instead of talking about a million little things, I’m going to talk about one thing: The World Junior Championships. As the NHL season appears to be inching closer to commencing (hopefully on January 13th), the top U20 event in the world will be [...]

By Michael Clifford|2020-12-14T11:47:58-05:00December 15th, 2020|Hockey Rambling|

There were a bunch of stories today about NHLers currently playing in Europe heading back to their respective clubs. Joe Thornton is one, a couple of Sens being others. Just a reminder that the Government of Canada still has a 14-day quarantine in place for out-of-country travellers, meaning players travelling from Europe need to get [...]

By Ian Gooding|2020-12-13T00:21:02-05:00December 13th, 2020|Hockey Rambling|

On Saturday, Team USA announced its roster for the World Juniors. Do you think this roster can knock off the host Canada? Looks like a solid group of forwards, especially on right wing. https://twitter.com/usahockey/status/1337774288393342976 One notable omission is Leafs top prospect Nick Robertson, who will be staying in Toronto to attend Leafs camp. Dave Hall [...]
