Ramblings: Thoughts on Ellis, Staal, Bjugstad, Jost and more … (Mar 05)

By Dobber|2018-03-05T16:14:43-05:00March 5th, 2018|Hockey Rambling|

Man, what could have been with Ryan Ellis this year. If he can stay healthy I think he can out-produce PK Subban and Roman Josi. Perhaps even hang up there with Karlsson, Klingberg, Burns and Gostisbehere. Three points Sunday gives him 20 in 27 and 11 points in his last eight games. Keep in mind [...]

There was an update on Matt Murray in that he skated before the team did on Friday for practice. He did not take any shots as he recovers from his concussion but it’s nonetheless a good sign that he’s on the ice in full equipment. I’m sure they’ll be very cautious here so there’s no [...]

Ramblings: Penguins Find the Bruins Un-Bearable (Mar 2)

By steve laidlaw|2018-03-02T00:37:55-05:00March 2nd, 2018|Hockey Rambling|

That was quite the smackdown that the Bruins laid on the Penguins last night. Eight goals! Including a hat-trick for David Krejci. Krejci has quietly been good when healthy, he just has not been able to stay healthy. He has 33 points in 44 games, a 60-point pace, which is near the high end [...]

The Niemi-ssance continues! Other than getting roasted by Mathew Barzal, which could and does happen to anyone, Niemi stopped 27 of 28 to defeat the Islanders. Niemi has made eight starts since joining the Canadiens, winning four of them and putting up a quality start in seven of the eight games. The one blip [...]

Was there a bigger loser of this year’s trade deadline than Vladislav Namestnikov? I don’t think so. The biggest possibly opening is the one left by Namestnikov as the net-front presence on the Lightning’s top power play unit. There isn’t as much of an opening in the top-six considering Namestnikov fell out of favour [...]

Afternoon updates... Two once highly-touted prospect defensemen who have been treading water for two years - Ryan Graves traded from the Rangers to the Avalanche for Chris Bigras Boston acquired hit-machine Tommy Wingels from Chicago for a fifth-round draft pick. Along with Brian Gionta, he brings nice depth to the team addressing a specific [...]

For those looking for an update on Auston Matthews, we got one: there’s not much of an update. Matthews is considered day-to-day, which is probably the best news Leafs fans could hope for here. We’re at the point of the season where a six-week injury could start to affect postseason appearances. The team only has [...]
