How do you stop a freight train? Or, in different words, what do the Toronto Maple Leafs need to change now - tonight - to knock off those prowling Florida Panthers? I’ve often said that a Stanley Cup playoff series doesn’t favor the team that’s “just happy to be here,” but that might apply to [...]
It was a fairly easy Game 1 for Carolina as they cruised to a 5-1 win over New Jersey on Wednesday night. That score doesn’t even really do the game justice as the Hurricanes held the Devils to just one shot on goal through the first 24 minutes of the game. Nathan Bastian would score [...]
Now is a great time to take stock in the performance of your fantasy teams for 2022-23. And for me it also means revisiting the 17 Fearless Forecasts I made right before the puck dropped on game 1 of the campaign. Here is the original column for reference and review. As usual, rather than just [...]
Feeling almost back to normal this week, and the endorphins from the Leafs winning certainly helped. Unfortunately for Canada, only two of their three playoff teams made it to the second round, with Winnipeg being the odd team out. Aside from the rooting interest in Toronto, the series I am most looking forward to this [...]
In this week’s Eastern Edge, we’ll look at heroes and zeroes from each team in round one. Special thanks to Ryan Brudner (@fantasycheddar) who did an amazing job with the column while I was away last month! Boston Bruins Heroes: Tyler Bertuzzi & Dmitry Orlov Boston’s trade deadline acquisitions were incredibly productive during the postseason. [...]
After falling behind 2-0 in the series, the New Jersey Devils won four of the next five games, including their 4-0 shutout of the New York Rangers Monday night in Game 7. Credit to Akira Schmid, who saved all 31 shots faced in this game to secure the win, his second blank sheet in his [...]
As the majority of series ended, the playoffs appeared to going perfectly to form as far as the favorites winning (Carolina, Toronto, Dallas, Vegas, Edmonton). Then Sunday hit with the two major Game 7 upsets of Florida over Boston and Seattle over Colorado. A minor upset of the Devils over the Rangers on Monday resulted [...]
As I did last season, I plan to focus on each team in the West and look at their current roster, prospects, cap space, draft picks and impending free agents. I intend to dig deeper into the organization to see if the team is on the rise, fall or treading water heading into 2023-2024. We [...]
Even though scoring was up to almost 30-year highs, it wasn't all peaches and cream for fantasy general managers. Despite the increase in scoring, there were still plenty of forwards who struggled to put up points. Last week, we focused on the top 10 disappointing netminders. It makes sense that goalies would struggle when scoring [...]
