My Midseason Guide was released January 6 and then an addendum was added Friday the 13th, get it here.  Prospects, second-half projections, the trading block – and so much more.   Uh oh – Taylor Hall and Jeff Skinner. Down and out. Footage below. Hall took an UGLY one, a fluke in which Corey [...]

Marian Gaborik vs. Alexander Semin

Gaborik vs. Semin: I am going to let you guys in on a little secret; I loathe Band-Aid Boys. What’s the use in owning a player who could, at any moment, spontaneously combust? Sure, anyone could go out for an extended period in today’s “Noggin Hurts League” but there is still something off-putting about knowing that there is a high probability a player will miss 20+ games. With Band-Aid Boys it is basically a coin flip. Heads you get Jekyll, tails you get Hyde.

The Preds claimed winger Brandon Yip off of waivers from Colorado. After a promising stretch of play two years ago, he's been a disappointment for the Avs. Yip couldn't beat out the likes of Kobasew, Porter, and Van Der Gulik for ice time.   He now becomes one of many third/fourth line wingers in [...]

When it comes to Brian Elliott, I can safely say that he has worked extremely hard to earn a new contract extension, and that he totally deserves one. The Blues signed him to a new two-year deal yesterday, one that will see him earn $1.7 million next season, then $1.9 million in the 2013-14 season. It’s a cap hit of just $1.8 million, a number that falls well within the “bargain” category for the Blues.

A tough decision can be made easier with these charts showing you the best five and worst five schedules for upcoming seven-day periods. Some of you used them last year but for the benefit of new readers here is a refresher. The number next to the team indicates the 'multiplier' to use on a player's point-per-game pace to give you an idea how many points to expect for that week.

Next week is All-Star week, so after a busy Tuesday with 13 games and a strangely quiet Wednesday with only one, the league will go on hold for six long, agonizing days. Here are some things to watch out for:

Kudos to whoever in the Ottawa organization recommended the Turris trade. The team is 12-2-2 since the trade. He was dominant again last night in San Jose, finishing with two points. Turris had almost 20 minutes of ice time, as well.   Pavel Datsyuk has snuck his way into Art Ross contention - [...]

Saturday’s Picks – January 21st 2012

Turris

Another good week last week, a 4-2 finish (I know Winnipeg won in OT and not the shootout so technically 3-3 for pro-line purposes) puts me at 9-3 over the past couple of weekends. Thunder is starting to slide as she only picked out two winners last week; the old girl needs a bounce back and fast. She’s got a couple of risky picks this week, but then again, all winning/losing streaks come to an end at some point.

It’s -400C here with the wind chill, so I’m looking forward to some nice hot cocoa with Bailey’s to keep me warm this Saturday while watching some NHL action. I would like to apologize ahead of time as I’ve been slightly distracted with my Niners playing in the NFC Championship Game this Sunday after that amazing game last weekend against the Saints, so if I slide a little, gimme a break, San Fran hasn’t been in the postseason since 2002. Fourteen games on the schedule, so let’s get to the easy money:
