Rolling along with the new format introduced by Marty last week, I am going to showcase my top six picks of the day. Make sure to check out the links, if you have already fallen in love with the fantastic Frozen Pools Fantasy Tools, you surely will now!

It goes without saying that Saturday's Hockey Day in Canada triple header will offer up plenty of interesting storylines, from The Battle of the Nation's Basement matinee between the Sens and Oil, to a Leafs-Habs classic and a lopsided affair in Vancouver. From Peter Forsberg's encore appearance to Mike Fisher's 1st game in a Nashville Mustard sweater after more than a decade in Ottawa, there will be plenty of new faces getting accustomed to new surroundings.

And we're on!………

L.A.  @ Washington (12:30pm ET)

By the Numbers – Frozen Pool

The Kings come into this one playing better hockey of late, winning five of seven and taking points home in all seven. This little run has vaulted them back to within two points of eight place Calgary, and with two games in hand. Jonathan Quick has been solidifying his status as the consensus starter over Jonathan Bernier so far in 2011. As a team, the Kings have kept the goals against way down under his lead, having gone the past 14 without giving 3+ goals, giving them a chance to win each night. However, a painfully long road trip going to the raucous Verizon centre will be no treat, especially with Semin back and with Stella ..er. I mean Ovy getting his groove back.

Pick

Washington – Home Win – H(ProLine)

Ottawa @ Edmonton (2:00pm ET)

By the Numbers – Frozen Pool

As mentioned earlier, the proverbial Battle of the Basement for Canada is on in full force! Its rather shocking though that the Toronto Maple Leafs aren't involved, at least statistically. However, I'm sure Brian Burke wishes he had the blue chippers of the Oilers and the top draft picks heading to both of these cities this summer. The fire sale has begun in the Canadian Nations Capital, with career Senator Mike Fisher the first one shipped out of town. There will be more to come. Ottawa's dreadful losing streak of 11 has its best chance of ending for a while this evening. I predict with Jason Spezza getting his legs back under him that this will be the night the streak ends. Plus, the Oilers have not fared much better only winning two of their past 12!

Pick

Edmonton – Home Win – H(ProLine)

Carolina @ Tampa Bay (7:00pm)

By the Numbers – Frozen Pool

With an important affair for the Canes the following night in Atlanta with the eight playoff spot up for grabs, Carolina simply cannot be looking too far ahead or they will get flattened by the division leaders.

The Canes have started to slip since the all-star break only winning once in their past five. Goal scoring has been a problem for them only having potted more than two in a game once in the past three weeks.

The Lightning on the other hand, have scored 14 in their past four, and 23 in six, as Vinny Lecavalier has begun to come out of the shadows the past week. I fully expect both trends to continue.

Pick

Tampa Bay – Home Win – H(ProLine)

Chicago @ Phoenix (7:00pm ET)

By the Numbers – Frozen Pool

The Hawks have been wildly inconsistent recently only once having strung together either consecutive wins OR losses over the past four weeks. They'll be looking to be more consistent going forward as the title defence is becoming less of a concern now than making the playoffs was we approach the stretch drive now.  Behind the absolute brilliance of The Bryz lately, the Yotes look to keep surging.

Chicago is desperate now though, so I expect them to challenge Ilya's hot streak.

Pick

Chicago – Visitor Win – H(ProLine)

Colorado @ Nashville (8:00pm ET)

By the Numbers – Frozen Pool

The pride of the glory years has made his return. If not for his on-ice contributions, a surely elevated level of spirit in the locker room cannot be taken lightly, with many Avalanche youngsters on cloud nine having the chance to play with their childhood hero, Foppa. Nashville won't be a pushover though, as they have recently TWICE toppled the Wings with ease in both a shutout form and 4-1 white-washing.

Pick

TIE – H(ProLine) (Avs in SO)

Calgary @ Vancouver (10:00pm ET)

By the Numbers – Frozen Pool

The finale of the Canadian Triple Header is a mismatch of sorts. However, the toast of the NHL will not be in for an easy ride though  (especially with their defensive injuries), as the surging Flames are a determined group. Only two weeks ago they were already written off by some, and are now 8-1-1 in their past 10 (not counting last night). This one I am adamant will be a lot tighter than many would think, including Vegas. I see a one-goal game either way.

Pick

Calgary – Visitor Win – H(ProLine)
