Absolutely huge news for Hiller owners and Duck fans - the Swiss star is expected to start skating in July.   Solid read on Chris Tanev, Vancouver's poised rookie on defense.   Sorry for the light ramblings today. Very late night and early morning doesn't make for a great combination. Some fantastic stuff on [...]

An Offseason of Decisions

Vinny

Thanks to a few well-timed strong finishers, my undermanned team (The Crosby Show) in an extremely competitive head-to-head keeper league managed a second place finish after the playoffs. As you can probably tell from my team name, Sidney Crosby was my star. This league counts standard categories (goals, hits penalty minutes, and so on), and over the past few seasons we have added a few more (faceoff wins and hits).

Over the past few weeks I have been formulating a plan for my team this summer. I’ve decided to share it with you, even though every single one of my competitors reads this site (in fact one of them is even a fellow columnist). Why? I’d like to think it is because I am such a nice guy, but I am also looking for feedback and your opinion as to how I should approach the summer ahead.

Rumors out of Vancouver today that Hamhuis has been suffering (to put it lightly) from a ruptured testicle. I was told it was mid-section/rib related last week, and after hearing this I hope it is. I can't even begin to fathom how painful a ruptured testicle would be.   Again, just a rumor, but [...]

Goldie Says: My latest on NHL.com looks at Luongo's crumbling confidence. Great deal for Reimer and his owners. I take a look at his potential next season as well.   One year and $3.25 million for Kostitsyn the elder in Montreal. Another 18-25 goal season filled with inconsistency - take that to the bank! [...]

David Krejci vs. Patrice Bergeron

Krejci

Hey gang, sorry for the lack of Cage Match articles the past couple of weeks. Unfortunately duty calls and I was called away to fight some cage matches of my own taking on formidable opponents such as forest fires, Yogi Bear, and fantasy hockey withdrawal. It was arduous (particularly the latter) but I survived and now that I’ve had my first bear encounter I feel comfortable bringing you this week’s Cage Match – Krejci vs. Bergeron. That’s right, it’s a bear fight!

Fantasy Prospects Report - buy it here.   Goldie Says: My first of two steps to 150 is done. My Top-125 Prospects Rankings is out. Of the new 25 prospects, the name I drop for all of you is Chris Rawlings. I'm trusting my gut and putting him on the map.   My Hockey News [...]

Good Players, Bad Teams

In deeper fantasy leagues many find themselves facing a difficult choice of who to select in later rounds. Typically I would look to a third line player on a strong team like Detroit or Vancouver to provide some offense and maybe boost my plus/minus. Lately however, I have been trying to buck that trend and look outside the box when it comes to the depth of my roster.

Fantasy Prospects Report - buy it here.   I'll have more in the ramblings late tonight/tomorrow morning, but the Flyers have acquired the rights to Ilya Bryzgalov from the Coyotes for a third round pick. Also, the Winnipeg franchise will hire Kevin Cheveldayoff to be their new GM. My thoughts forthcoming.   Update II - [...]

Down the Rabbit Hole

Another day, another prospect discovered. This is the trend heading into the summer again, as the market for the $4 or $5 million-a-year superstar begins with Tomas Vokoun and ends with Ilya Bryzgalov. So as general managers continue to try getting the most bang for their buck in goal, now more than ever before, tracking prospects is vital to successfully managing your fantasy keeper team.
