Apologies regarding Stamkos info – I checked out the CBA this morning and it looks like the deal takes up one year of his UFA eligibility (hence the NMC in the last year). Thanks for the heads up to those who corrected me.

The Rangers officially inked Brandon Dubinsky to a four-year deal. Cap hit just north of $4 million per. Fair money and fair term for a solid top six forward who can play wing/center and contribute in a variety of ways. An underrated offensive player.

With this signing, he has to become the favorite to play LW with Richards/Gaborik. Has the size and grit to complement them and open up some free space.

A very interesting read on the curious decisions made by Flyers management over the past eight months or so.

How good was David Rundblad's 2010-11 SEL season? An insightful read comparing Rundblad's season to past seasons by the likes of Lidstrom, Forsberg, Naslund, and the Sedin twins.

In case you missed it – Elliotte Friedman's final 30 Thoughts for the summer.

Some of my favorite points:

20. Scouting report on James Wisniewski, who found gold in Columbus: like many of us, his greatest strength is his greatest weakness. He is supremely confident. Wisniewski will not feel the pressure of being paid like a No. 1 defenceman, because he thinks of himself as one. That’s important, but gets him into trouble sometimes. One example: shift length.  He’s averaged 55 seconds the last two seasons, putting him in the NHL’s Top 10. The sense is he’d be a little more effective if he cut that down a bit.

Kevin Bieksa has a similar confident/cocky vibe – when things are going well, it helps his game as he never second guesses himself. When things aren't going well, it looks worse than it is because of what may seem to be a nonchalant attitude.

26. As for chemistry with Marian Gaborik, Richards, a left-hand shot, explained last season that he liked the idea of another lefty playing the right side. Richards says that setup gives him more options for putting the puck in a scoring area, especially drop passes.

Get excited, Rangers fans.

How would you put Florida's lineup card together? My picks:

Booth-Weiss-Versteeg

Fleischmann-Matthias/Santorelli-Dadonov/Upshall

Bergenheim-Goc-Kopecky

Fleischmann can play either wing. Versteeg is more of a playmaker; he may click well with Booth. I'd say the second line center and winger spots are interchangeable – I like the look of that third line. Fast and very defensively responsible. Kopecky can be a physical player when he wants to be, as well.

With the Purcell re-signing, the Lightning appear to have a set roster. Purcell received about $2.3 million per for the next two seasons.

Carter Ashton has the best chance of the prospects to crack the roster – probably in a bottom six role to start. Brett Connolly has the higher upside of the two, but he's still a little raw.

Anaheim has struggled with some of their more recent RFA re-signings. Copper & Blue weighs in here.

He’s injury prone, but when healthy his mitts are filthy:

This move doesn’t work, but pretty special to even think it up:
