Player Props: Must-Win Monday

Will McLean

2022-06-06

The Colorado Avalanche are one win away from sweeping the Edmonton Oilers and advancing to the Stanley Cup Finals. Both teams will be without major pieces of their respective forward groups when the puck is dropped for Game 4 tonight. The Avalanche will be missing Nazem Kadri, who will be out for the rest of the series after being injured early in Game 3 on a dangerous hit from Evander Kane. Kane was handed a one-game suspension for the hit that injured Kadri, which means the Oilers will be missing their leading goal scorer for tonight's must-win game. Will the Oilers extend their season in front of a rabid home crowd, or will the Avalanche be the first team to earn their spot in the Stanley Cup Final, I'm excited to find out.

Below are a few of my favorite prop bets for tonight's games to consider:

Leon Draisaitl Under 3.5 Shots (-136)

It's obvious that Draisaitl has been struggling with an ankle injury during the playoffs and it seems like it got worse in Game 3. He is really struggling to get up and down the ice and he can't lean into one-timers like he normally can. I think his injury might be making him a liability at even-strength and his only value might be on the powerplay in a pass-first role. Also, in his last five games, he has only had four or more shots in one game. Taking his last five games and injury into account, this seems like a good bet to me.

J.T. Compher Over 1.5 Shots (+138)

With Kadri out for the rest of the series, it looks like Compher will be getting quite a few more minutes. Compher played nearly eight more minutes in Game 3 than the previous game because of the injury to Kadri. The extra minutes that Compher is getting should give him ample opportunity to shoot the puck. Also, in his last four games, he has hit the over three times, with three shots in each game. Given the odds, his extra ice-time, and the fact that he has hit the over in three of four, I am very confident in this play.

Mikko Rantanen 0.5 Assists (-114)

During the regular season, Rantanen racked up 56 assists in 75 games, which is very impressive. What is more impressive is that he is nearly at an assist per-game pace in the playoffs with 12 assists in 13 games. Also, he hasn't gone without an assist in back-to-back games during the playoffs yet. Since he didn't have an assist in Game 3, and the Avalanche are averaging over five goals a game this series, I think we'll see a Rantanen assist in Game 4.

Zach Hyman Anytime Goal (+160)

Hyman has been excellent for the Oilers during the playoffs. He is currently tied for second on the team in goals with nine in 15 games. With Kane suspended for Game 4, and the Oilers facing elimination, I have to assume that Hyman will be leaned on heavily to produce offence. With the Avalanche averaging more than five goals a game this series, the Oilers will need to be aggressive offensively to keep up. If the Oilers want to see their season continue, Hyman needs to have a big game to make that happen.

Enjoy the game tonight everyone, and hopefully, we can cash some bets! Always remember to gamble responsibly.
