We are back with another Tuesday edition of Game Picks, where we give out a Gold, Silver, and Bronze selection every Tuesday during the NHL season. It's a big night tonight in the NHL with 11 games on the schedule, which should provide us with more than enough options to find some winners. I've done my best to research each of the games and I think I have found some good bets. The three matchups I am most interested in are the Colorado Avalanche @ San Jose Sharks, Edmonton Oilers @ Los Angeles Kings, and Buffalo Sabres @ Florida Panthers. Hopefully, I can get back on track and sweep the board tonight.

Below I highlight my Gold, Silver, and Bronze selections for tonight's games. Last Tuesday was a rough day that saw me go (1 – 2), bringing my season record to a subpar (19 – 23).

Gold Selection

Colorado Avalanche @ San Jose Sharks – Pick: Avalanche In Regulation (-139)

This play is pretty simple: the Avalanche are playing fantastic hockey as they gear up for the playoffs while the Sharks limp their way to the draft lottery. The Avalanche have won 14 of their last 20 games, outscoring their opponents 77-52 over that stretch. The Sharks are the exact opposite, they have only won five of their last 20 games, having given up 81 goals against while only scoring 55. Also, the Avalanche have won 10 of their last 11 road games, while the Sharks have only won four of their last 19 home games, which doesn't bode well for the Sharks on home ice tonight. The Avalanche have won both meetings these two teams have had this season, outscoring the Sharks 10-2 over the two games. The only reason that could make me nervous about this pick is if the Avalanche decided to rest some of their top players, but I don't think that'll be the case tonight. I expect the Avalanche to keep up their strong play and handily beat the struggling Sharks.

Silver Selection

Edmonton Oilers @ Los Angeles Kings – Pick: Oilers Over 28.5 Shots (-116)

This pick is pretty straightforward, the Oilers produce 29 or more shots almost every game. The Oilers have racked up 29 or more shots in nine of their last 10 games including the last seven in a row. In fact, the Oilers have produced at least 29 shots in 59 of their 77 games this season, meaning they have a success rate of 77% for this exact bet. Also, the Oilers and Kings have played twice in 2023, the Oilers recorded 31 and 37 shots in the two games. The fact that the Oilers win this bet at such a high rate, while also winning proving their ability to produce shots against the Kings, makes this bet a no-brainer for me.

Bronze Selection

Buffalo Sabres @ Florida Panthers – Pick: Carter Verhaeghe Over 3.5 Shots (-125)

Verhaeghe playing on home ice against the Buffalo Sabres tonight looks like the perfect matchup for him to rack up the shots. This season Verhaeghe is averaging 3.46 shots per game, but over his last 10 games he is averaging 4.80 shots per game, well over a shot more per game than average. This uptick in shots has led to him recording at least four shots in nine of his last 11 games. He's also been automatic on home ice, recording four or more shots in 16 of his last 18 home games, that kind of streak can't be ignored. The Sabres shouldn't be too stiff of a matchup for Verhaeghe considering they allow the seventh most shots against in the NHL. With Verhaeghe and the Panthers chasing the final playoff spot, look for Verhaeghe to try and push for offence every chance he gets.
