There was a video conference with Montreal coach Claude Julien. Early on, John Lu from TSN tweeted that Julien had lost weight and started some lifestyle changes following his cardiac event a couple months ago. That is great news and best wishes to Julien. The second salient point, which is important for fantasy hockey, is [...]
The Flames added some forward depth on Tuesday by signing forward Dominik Simon to a one-year contract worth $700k. He had 22 points in 64 games last year with Pittsburgh, and 28 points in 71 games the year before with that same franchise. He turned 26 in August and will still be RFA at the [...]
There will be a brief discussion on one of the Nashville centres a little later, but it’s worth talking a bit about their current winger situation, too. Both Filip Forsberg and Viktor Arvidsson had down years (for different reasons) and there just isn’t a lot to speak of offensively beyond that with Granlund and Smith [...]
Doc Emrick, the long-time NHL play-by-play announcer, announced he will be retiring. He has done much more than just NHL, having announced international competitions as well, in particular the Olympics, so he will be familiar even to those outside of America. For those in America, he is likely your voice of hockey. He announced his [...]
After a flurry of moves over the first 3-4 days, free agency has slowed down the last couple of nights, though there were still big names left available. We can scratch one of those names off the list as Evgenii Dadonov is taking his talents from South Beach to Ottawa, to the tune of $5M [...]
Montreal signed goalie Jake Allen to a two-year extension carrying an AAV of $2.875M. With the expansion draft a year from now, any goalie signing a deal longer than one year but shorter than, say, four years is almost certainly being done because of expansion. It seems as though teams learned from the Anaheim debacle [...]
Interesting quotes from Colorado general manager Joe Sakic about their blue line. He really made it seems like Conor Timmins will be in the lineup next year, which makes sense when looking at their depth. He can come slot on the third pair with a solid veteran like Ian Cole and get his feet wet [...]
Following what can only be described as a down year in Toronto, Tyson Barrie is heading to Edmonton on a one-year deal worth $3.75 million. With the likelihood of the Oilers starting the next season without Oscar Klefbom in the lineup, and potentially many games after that, the Oilers needed to find someone to run [...]
The Detroit Red Wings moved on from Jimmy Howard, the guy who had been more-or-less their starter for the last decade. It opened up a spot in net but with the plethora of goalies available, it wouldn’t be hard to replace him. The Wings did just that by signing Thomas Greiss to a two-year contract [...]
Following the one-year trial-and-error of Tyson Barrie on the right side, Toronto ended up more or less where they were a year ago. They shored up their blue line for the next few years by signing T.J. Brodie to a four-year deal worth $5M. It also carries a no-move clause. Let’s get into it. [...]
