Jack Johnson was bought out by the Penguins. It’s notable because there’s a logjam on the left side of the Penguins blue line and that was before acquiring Mike Matheson. They could line up Dumoulin-Matheson-Pettersson and that leaves Riikola and Pierre-Olivier Joseph on the outside looking in. For those looking at P-O Joseph to get [...]
Goaltending has been a sore spot for the Sharks for years now, and they’re attempting to address this problem by acquiring goaltender Devan Dubnyk from the Minnesota Wild for a fifth-round pick in 2022. Aaron Dell just became a UFA this year so it appears that the Sharks will be going into 2020-21 with a [...]
I am just stepping in Dobber’s usual spot this week as he had to cover for me last week. He’ll be back in this usual slot for his next Ramblings. * Olli Maatta was traded from Chicago to Los Angeles for prospect Brad Morrison. Morrison is 23 years old and spent last year in the [...]
Game 6 of the Stanley Cup Final had much the pace of most of the series: slow but controlled by Tampa Bay. To wit: at the mid-point of the second period, the game had seen 20 total shots on goal, with just seven from Dallas Stars sticks. That control led to a 2-0 lead for [...]
The Sens announced they won’t be bringing back goaltender Craig Anderson. He had spent the bulk of his franchise with the team but he’s had a few rough seasons in a row playing behind really bad teams and at the age of 39, it makes sense the team looks for new goaltending as their rebuild [...]
We knew Pittsburgh would need to clear some cap space this summer, and part of this apparently includes trading Patric Hornqvist to Florida for defenceman Mike Matheson and forward Colton Sceviour. At the least, they clear it up front. Matheson saw a big hit in ice time this year, dropping from 21-22 minutes the previous [...]
Yesterday, I wrote about where teams stand with regards to cap space and the off-season. Remember, the draft starts October 6th and free agency on October 9th, with the last day of playoffs potentially being September 30th. That doesn’t give us much time to cover what may happen. Today, I want to start the discussion [...]
A good read from Greg Wyshynski and Emily Kaplan over at ESPN about the NHL bubble. They got nine players to talk about the experience inside the bubble from both Toronto and Edmonton. This means talking about the food, entertainment, amenities, security, safety protocols, and everything else. It’s… eye-opening. The NHL got its security protocols [...]
The NHL announced the rest of its award winners on Monday, including top defenceman, goalie, rookie, and including the MVP to his team. Months ago, I wrote about who I thought should receive the various awards: Vezina can be found here and the others here. This was before the finalists were even announced, so they [...]
We’ve seen lots of young players head overseas as their teams try to continue their development, and that makes all the sense in the world with so much time between last season and next season. I also saw Joe Thornton went back to Davos where he played during the lockout but he hasn’t suited up [...]
