Yakupov, Galchenyuk, Huberdeau and Tarasenko move onto the semi-finals

The quarterfinals of the Cage Match Rookie Tournament were supposed to up the ante and bring some really tight matchups. It didn’t necessarily work out that way but it was nevertheless a huge success as reader voting has never been higher. You guys have opinions on this stuff and you want to make them heard so who am I to argue. Here are the blowout results:

Fifteen signs that your team is not going to win your league this year

Don’t look now, but the 2012-13 season is nearly half over. At this point some fantasy hockey teams are doing great and others terrible, but most probably are somewhere in the middle. But as painful as this might be to hear, many of those teams in the middle have little to no realistic chance to actually win their league.  What makes that situation even worse is when those GMs finally wake up and realize their inevitable fate, it’ll be too late to try to take steps (like trades) to help put their teams in a better position for next season or down the road.

Russ Miller takes a look at the impact rookies of the Eastern Conference

Here we are at the halfway point of the season already. It has been a long time since I remember as many first year players having this type of impact for their respective teams as there have been this season.  The Eastern Edge looks at some first year players from the Eastern Conference that are having an impact in their inaugural campaigns.

What's Up With Drew Doughty?

With the NHL Lockout delaying the start of the season until mid January, the Los Angeles Kings would have had to have been confident that they could avoid a Stanley Cup hangover. Playing well into June as the Kings did last summer meant plenty of bumps and bruises, as well as some significant injuries. Los Angeles started a little slow out of the gates, but they seem to have turned things around and their top scorers are all rounding into form nicely. All except Drew Doughty that is.

Terry Campkin goes beyond the surface with Alex Semin in Carolina this season.

Earlier this year, I wrote a piece which identified some buy-low and sell high candidates. Today, I am going to take a deeper look at one of the players profiled: Alexander Semin.

At the time the article was published, Semin’s average draft position was 140. I asserted that Semin could easily provide top 50 value in the coming season and had the upside to even surpass that. Let’s run the same league through Fantasy Hockey Geek using 2013 stats and take a look at how he is doing so far:

Anthony Lancione breaks down Saturday's NHL action.

Last week was almost a neat sweep for me, starting out a perfect four for four on the Saturday slate, including correctly (and boldly I might add) pinning Edmonton and Phoenix to go to shootouts. Moreover, I pegged the Oilers to take it, eventually finishing off five for six on the night. This week, I’ll look to build on that momentum and get on a bit of a roll!
