Balsillie may be priced out – June 11, 2009

Dallas has indeed hired Marc Crawford as a head coach. From a fantasy standpoint, I don't see this helping the offense too much - but it will a bit. Between the pipes, however, I think this could hurt. Turco owners should consider investigating the market for him.  I'm starting to think that Jim Balsillie will [...]

News From Around the League

emery

Even with Game 7 looming, there is no shortage of news from around the rest of the NHL. Dany Heatley has asked the Senators for a trade, the Flyers have signed Ray Emery to be their starting goalie, the Canucks are close to signing a top Russian prospect, and the Bruins are trying to figure out how to keep their team together. Let me break it all down from a fantasy perspective.

Theodore on the outs? June 10, 2009

By |2009-06-10T07:55:10-04:00June 10th, 2009|Hockey Rambling|

RDS is reporting that Anaheim goaltending coach Francois Allaire has been hired by the Maple Leafs. Given his reputation, this should dramatically help Toskala's game, and perhaps get Gustavsson to sign. Dallas has fired coach Dave Tippett. A good coach, who had to lead a team decimated by injuries into the playoffs. The rumor is that [...]

What Dreams May Come 2009

 Kovalev

Last year I wrote a column regarding seven dreams that I had prior to this past season, I hit exactly ZERO of them... so why not do the same thing and hopefully come up with a better hit ratio this time around? Dobber and I had a great side bet last year that if Jaromir Jagr were to sign with the Caps he’d rename Dobberhockey to Mahockey. I’ll throw down the gauntlet once again to make Dobber shake in his pants a little.

Sutter stepping down – June 09, 2009

By |2009-06-09T09:41:31-04:00June 9th, 2009|Hockey Rambling|

Puck Daddy, a recent guest on Dobber Nation , discusses the Dany Heatley rumor that he wants out of Ottawa.  There is a chance that you will see a very hungry Petr Sykora in the lineup for Game 6...  This rumor may be bad news for Parise, Elias et al if true - Jacques Lemaire [...]

The Great Deceiver

Neuvirth

Everything from the pronunciation of his name, to his contrasting yet motivational on and off-ice personality, to his unique butterfly on the ice, is quite deceiving about this special goalie from the Czech Republic. And so after posting my Top-10 keeper league goalie prospects just a few days ago…yeahh…I’m already sliding him up a spot or two.

Harding on the move? June 08, 2009

By |2009-06-08T08:57:04-04:00June 8th, 2009|Hockey Rambling|

The Flyers have reportedly signed goalie Ray Emery to a one-year deal worth $1.5 million. He makes an excellent third goalie for most fantasy teams, but if you count on him as your No.1 or No.2, you are taking a huge risk. Given the Flyers' salary situation, it is entirely possible that they sign an [...]

Spezza and Heatley

Heatley Spezza

It figures. Spezza owners finally get an 82-game season out of him and he posts his worst points-per-game numbers since his first full NHL season. That means that there has never been a better time to acquire the Ottawa pivot then right now and ditto for his superstar linemate Dany Heatley.

Give Garon a shot? June 07, 2009

By |2009-06-07T11:02:32-04:00June 7th, 2009|Hockey Rambling|

Datsyuk on one foot earned two assists last night and played nearly 18 minutes. He did not see any time at all shorthanded and he did not take any draws in the defensive zone (and just five overall). His first assist was on the opening goal of the game and took the wind out of [...]
