Fantasy Take – Latest NHL Moves

Winnipeg’s blue line overhaul continues. It is a necessary overhaul because it was the glaring weakness of the team last year, and really has been ever since the retirement of Dustin Byfuglien. They are trying to piece it back together and managed to retain Dylan DeMelo through the Expansion Draft. Winnipeg went out and got [...]

If this trade is going to be a harbinger of things to come, we are going to be in for a wild, wild offseason. Not that long ago, Alex Nedeljkovic – the goalie who looked the future in net for Carolina and was a finalist for Rooke of the Year – was traded to Detroit [...]

The Florida Panthers have acquired Sam Reinhart from the Buffalo Sabres in exchange for goalie prospect Devon Levi and a 2022 first-round pick. Reinhart has been one of the few bright spots on the Sabres roster during their prolonged rebuild, scoring a minimum of 20 goals in five of his last six seasons. He’s logged [...]

In a good old-fashioned hockey trade, the Columbus Blue Jackets have traded Cam Atkinson to the Philadelphia Flyers for Jakub Voracek. https://twitter.com/DarrenDreger/status/1418965617546256385 This trade features two players that on the surface appear similar. Both players are right wingers. Both players will be 32 years of age when the season starts. Both players are owed just [...]

Carolina completed their second somewhat vexing trade of the week on Friday. Earlier, they shipped off Alex Nedeljkovic to Detroit for a mid-round pick and the rights to Jonathan Bernier. Not exactly what Carolina fans were hoping for, I think, for a goalie who’d gone through their system and was a finalist for the Calder [...]

The rumours had been swirling basically all year that Seth Jones would be traded and that happened about an hour before the 2021 NHL Entry Draft. As had been rumoured, the Chicago Blackhawks have acquired the 26-year-old blue liner and subsequently extended him for seven years. It really took me a minute to get my [...]

In a trade that looks more like something you’d see in a dynasty fantasy league than between two NHL teams, the Vancouver Canucks have acquired Oliver Ekman-Larsson and Conor Garland from the Arizona Coyotes for Jay Beagle, Loui Eriksson, Antoine Roussel, the ninth overall pick in the 2021 NHL Draft (Dylan Guenther), a second-rounder next [...]

This one kind of hits home because as a fantasy analyst, there are players we have to believe in. There are players that come along and the analyst identifies something they like about the player and start of sort to root for them. Bias can set in here so it’s a very tricky path to [...]

Following the trade of Shayne Gostisbehere, it seemed as if Philadelphia was clearing cap space to make another splash on the back-end. This offseason is moving so fast that it’s easy to forget that they’ve already picked up Ryan Ellis from Nashville. Well, they did indeed add another defenceman, and it came way out of [...]

“The desert around their walls is called the Garden of Bones. Every time the Qartheen shut their gates, the garden grows.” I thought of that quote from the second season of the Game of Thrones when I found out that Shayne Gostisbehere had been traded to Arizona. Here are the particulars: https://twitter.com/CraigSMorgan/status/1418265130433798150 The Flyers paid [...]
