Gaborik vs. Semin: I am going to let you guys in on a little secret; I loathe Band-Aid Boys. What’s the use in owning a player who could, at any moment, spontaneously combust? Sure, anyone could go out for an extended period in today’s “Noggin Hurts League” but there is still something off-putting about knowing that there is a high probability a player will miss 20+ games. With Band-Aid Boys it is basically a coin flip. Heads you get Jekyll, tails you get Hyde.

Let’s say you want some goal scoring infused into your lineup. One quick look at the top leaders in the Eastern Conference and you’ll see some of the usual suspects – Stamkos, Kessel, Gaborik, etc. Simply looking at standard goal totals might not actually help your squad though. Each year players get hot, cold, go on long stretches of strong or poor performance, or perform differently based on the situations around them. This week I’ll take a deeper look at goal scorers in the Eastern Conference and I’ll follow up with the same analysis in terms of playmakers next week.

Happy Belated New Year’s Poolies!

It’s been quite a week in the NHL, with an even further intensified playoff race in both conferences coming to the forefront of late with Gary Bettman’s High Parity NHL. Should be another amazing winter of exciting meaningful hockey (for most teams) down the stretch!

After a solid 1 month run of going at over an 80% clip, I split my picks in half last column. This week I’m banking on yet another above .500 card. So without further ado….
