Hockey Rambling

We are making our way through the last unofficial week of summer, with Labour Day just around the bend. That means training camps are on the way soon, with rookie camps first, so draft season is nearly upon us. Some may have happened already, but September is when things really start to get rolling. Unfortunately [...]

Once again I got the call from the ECHL as an EBUG and am filling in for Dobber today. I’m going to focus on a few issues that have either been on my mind for a while or things I’m curious about going forward. * First, a big announcement. It’s finally launched – the all-new [...]

We focused yesterday on draft strategies, players with low ADPs, and some thoughts on position scarcity for the upcoming year. Today the focus shifts to the deeper keepers/dynasty leagues, and what those groups are focusing on in the summer instead. How to Value Players in a Trade Many of the questions we see in the [...]

We’re into mock draft season, which is basically as soon as mock drafts open up on Yahoo or Fantrax, right up until training camp starts. I’ve read my guide, I’ve sorted out my keeper situations, and now it’s time to lean into the mock drafts and glean all we can from the current ADPs, depths [...]

Fantasy drafting has started, particularly those in keeper leagues or playing best ball formats, which means fantasy hockey season is in full swing. Most drafts won’t start until next month but there’s no reason to not get a good head start. With that in mind, be sure to purchase your copy of the 2022 Dobber [...]

The Islanders signed, or re-signed, a slew of players earlier this week, of both the NHL and AHL variety. The big name that was secured was defenceman Noah Dobson, who signed a three-year deal with a $4M average annual value. For a 22-year-old coming off a 51-point season, not a bad deal for the team [...]

With Paul Stastny signing yesterday, Michael Clifford wrote about both his outlook and that of a few of the remaining UFAs. It got me thinking about whose value in fantasy we may see shift over the course of the rest of the offseason. Be it trades, signings, possible lineup matches, or injury news both positive [...]

We have been busy here at Dobber Hockey over the last month. First, we are coming off what we fondly called Bubble Keeper Week, where we discuss players and answer questions about those guys at the bottom of everyone’s potential keeper list. To get started, be sure to check out all our Ramblings from the [...]

OUT NOW! I released the Fantasy Guide on August 4, and the last update is August 19 with the Carey Price news. Pick up the Fantasy Guide here and immediately download both the PDF and the spreadsheet. This week I plan to put in the team goals-for projections/rankings now that Nazem Kadri has signed. * [...]

What a finish to the World Junior Tournament! Kent Johnson scored the tournament-winning goal at 3:20 of overtime to give Canada the gold medal in a 3-2 win over Finland. Here’s the golden goal: https://twitter.com/rayanddregs/status/1561186575291072512 That goal wouldn’t have been possible without an incredible save from Mason McTavish just moments earlier. Yes, Mason McTavish. https://twitter.com/TSN_Sports/status/1561184962807844864 [...]
